For children who know the alphabet and are eager to begin reading. Level 1 might be too simple but 2 and 3 are reliably in his range of understanding and sometimes level 4 is too. Normally, I don't like the "step into reading" books much as I find the text dry. I started buying more educational books for him in the learning to read type books because they are simplified.

Text is extremely simple, with mainly one- or two-syllable words.
