USS Hyman G. Rickover SSN-709 was named in his honor.
Hyman G. Rickover : biography 27 January 1900 – 08 July 1986 As head of Naval Reactors, Rickover’s focus and responsibilities were dedicated to reactor safety rather than tactical or strategic submarine warfare training. This Los Angeles-Class nuclear submarine was commissioned July 21, 1984 and inactivated December 14, 2006. Inspector General, 19th Fleet, West Coast, 1945. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1922 and served on board USS LaVallette and USS Nevada until he returned to the Academy for postgraduate education in electrical engineering.. Rickover underwent submarine training between January and June 1930.
